Leaving Riding Mountain National Park, looking back at the weather we left behind.

Wish I had a graduated ND filter there or at least a tripod so I could capture the dynamic range of the scene in two pictures. I wanted to capture the dramatic sky, which necessarily meant I had to underexpose the rest of the picture quite severely.

Scene from Riding Mountain National Park in Manitoba. I travelled there with a colleague at IISD to go hiking over a weekend when I was in Winnipeg last summer. It rained virtually the entire time! We had the worst luck with the weather; I did not actually bring my camera on the hike, it was too wet. In the afternoon the following day it stopped raining and we stopped to see buffalo and take in the scenery.

Here I am, at my convocation ceremony. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, with Honours (totally Canadian: it means I got a four-year degree as opposed to a three-year pass degree).

It’s that time of year again. There were two geese and two goslings, unfortunately I could never get them all in the same shot. This is the best one I took in my opinion.

It was a busy day on the Welland Canal, I saw four ships in just two hours. Three actually went past me, and I saw another one in a lock further down. No doubt there were ships in all seven locks yesterday.

You know, the canal between Lake Ontario and Lake Erie (the Welland Canal) is only 500 metres away from where I live and I almost never see it? I hear the ships sometimes though. But I’ve lived close to the canal for three and a half years without paying much attention to it. Therefore I took a walk along the canal yesterday in the balmy weather.

More spring flowers, no bee on these ones.
